Attack in Berlin: what we know.

Berlin is still in shock after Saturday evening's attack near the Christopher Street Day (Pride). A vehicle drove into the crowd before the driver continued his attack with a knife. The provisional toll: one woman killed and 29 injured.
The German authorities quickly treated it as a terrorist act. The main suspect, a 21-year-old man already known to the security services for radicalisation, was tracked down the following day and died during a police operation after threatening officers with a knife. Investigators have since said they found evidence of a link to the Islamic State terrorist organisation.
Beyond the shock, this tragedy reopens the debate on monitoring radicalised individuals, security at major events and the means of preventing such acts. It is also a reminder of the importance of sticking to established facts and avoiding generalisations: the acts of one individual must not be attributed to a whole community.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and everyone affected by this tragedy.
