Germany held back, Les Bleus aim for first place.
The group stage of the 2026 World Cup continues to deliver surprises.

The group stage of the 2026 World Cup continues to deliver surprises. On Thursday, Germany lost 2–1 to Ecuador, a defeat that ended their perfect record. Despite this setback, the team stays top of Group E for now thanks to a better goal difference, ahead of Ivory Coast, who also have six points.
For Les Bleus, a decisive match lies ahead. This Friday evening, France face Norway in the top-of-the-table clash in Group I. Both teams have six points after two wins and are already through to the round of 32. Now there is a lot at stake: winning the group to have a potentially easier route in the knockout stage.
Didier Deschamps' men will, however, need to be wary of a Norwegian side that has impressed since the start of the tournament. Strong in attack and led by their key players, the Scandinavians are Les Bleus' first real test at this World Cup.
