Municipal elections 2026: voters in the Moselle valley called to the polls
A few days before the municipal elections, residents of the Moselle valley are getting ready to elect their town councils.

A few days before the municipal elections, residents of the Moselle valley are getting ready to elect their town councils. Voting takes place on 15 March for the first round and, if necessary, on 22 March for the second. In the Pays des Trois Frontières, these municipal elections are being followed particularly closely, as the area's development, housing and cross-border mobility are at stake.
In the Pays des Trois Frontières, around Sierck-les-Bains, Apach, Rettel or Contz-les-Bains, residents are following these elections with particular attention. The decisions of the future elected officials have a direct impact on the area's development and on quality of life in the towns.
Municipal elections are often seen as the elections closest to citizens. The elected town councillors run the town's affairs for six years. Once the council is in place, its members elect the mayor.
In the rural towns of the Moselle, campaigns usually rely on local teams made up of residents involved in community associations, business or civic life.
Key issues for the area
In the Moselle valley and across the Pays des Trois Frontières, several topics could play an important role in the municipal debate:
- pressure on the property market due to proximity to Luxembourg
- cross-border workers' commutes
- the development of town and village centres
- showcasing heritage and tourism
- residents' quality of life.
Right next to Luxembourg and Germany, this border area is undergoing rapid change, which poses new challenges for the towns.
An eagerly awaited turnout
Citizens registered on the electoral rolls are therefore called to go to the polling stations in their town to choose the teams that will lead the projects of the coming years.
