Germany: yellow bins change provider in the Landkreis Merzig-Wadern

A major change is on the way for household packaging collection in the Landkreis Merzig-Wadern. From 1 January 2027, the company RMG Rohstoffmanagement GmbH will take over the collection of lightweight packaging, replacing Remondis.

The change affects all seven municipalities in the district: Beckingen, Losheim am See, Merzig, Mettlach, Perl, Wadern and Weiskirchen.

New bins distributed free of charge

The change of provider means that all existing yellow bins will be replaced. As the old Remondis containers cannot be taken over by the new operator, RMG has to roll out a new fleet of bins across the whole area.

Distribution is free and automatic. Residents do not need to do anything to receive their new container.

The provisional schedule by municipality

Distribution will take place gradually according to the following schedule:

  • Perl and Mettlach: weeks 44 and 45.
  • Beckingen: weeks 44, 45 and 46.
  • Merzig: weeks 46, 47 and 48.
  • Losheim am See: weeks 47 to 50.
  • Wadern: weeks 49 and 50.
  • Weiskirchen: weeks 50 and 51.

The large 1,100-litre containers intended in particular for blocks of flats and public bodies will be distributed during weeks 50 and 51.

These periods are provisional and may be subject to slight adjustments.

Please note: two yellow bins during the transition

Residents should bear in mind one key point: the new bins may only be used from 1 January 2027.

Up to and including 31 December 2026, collections will continue as normal using the old Remondis bins.

It will therefore be perfectly normal to see two yellow bins outside some homes for a while. The old containers will be gradually collected by Remondis at the beginning of 2027.

What to do if there is a problem?

Residents who do not receive their new bin or who wish to report a problem can contact RMG directly.

For any enquiries regarding distribution, complaints or collection arrangements:

  • Website: www.rmg-gmbh.de
  • Email: gelbe-tonne.merzig-wadern@rmg-gmbh.de
  • Telephone: 0800 400 600 5 (responsible service from 1 January 2027).

The change of provider marks a new stage in the organisation of packaging collection in the Landkreis Merzig-Wadern. Residents are asked to follow the instructions in order to ensure a smooth transition.
