Halloween: an imported celebration that livens up the Three Borders area.
Every year, as 31 October approaches, pumpkins, costumes and spooky decorations take over the streets and shop windows. Halloween has gradually become part of our habits, to the point of becoming an unmissable autumn event. But where does this celebration really come from?

Contrary to popular belief, Halloween has its roots in ancient Celtic traditions, notably Samhain, before evolving over the centuries and enjoying huge success in the United States.
Today, the celebration goes far beyond children out trick-or-treating for sweets. Themed parties, games, family activities and haunted trails attract people of all ages.
In the Three Borders area, this trend is reflected in particular in events organised around local heritage. In Sierck-les-Bains, the ‘Bêtes & Sorcières’ festival invites visitors to discover the castle in a fantastical atmosphere.
Radio Tripoint is getting into the spirit too!
This year, our cross-border radio station has decided to join in by launching its own Halloween competition: the Haunted Village. How does it work? Visit our website, answer the questions within the time limit and try to win one of the prizes up for grabs. A new way of getting our community involved and sharing a fun moment with our listeners.
Beyond the entertainment, Halloween is also an opportunity for associations, shopkeepers and local stakeholders to bring the area to life as winter approaches.
Some see it as an imported commercial celebration, others as a convivial occasion that has become a genuine tradition.
So, is Halloween still a fashion from elsewhere, or is it now part of our traditions? In the Three Borders area, the pumpkins certainly seem to have found their place!
