Luxembourg: Ana Correia da Veiga becomes the first Black woman to sit in Parliament
A historic milestone for political representation in the Grand Duchy. On 14 October 2026, Ana Correia da Veiga, a member of the left-wing party déi Lénk, was sworn in at Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies.

Aged 43 and born in Luxembourg, Ana Correia da Veiga is of Cape Verdean descent. Before entering Parliament, she was active in local politics, notably on the municipal council of Luxembourg City. She has also worked in the social sector, experience she intends to draw on in her new role.
Her arrival in the Chamber is part of the mandate rotation principle applied by déi Lénk. She succeeds David Wagner, while Gary Diderich takes over from Marc Baum.
Education and social justice at the heart of her priorities.
Ana Correia da Veiga intends in particular to champion issues relating to education, social justice and housing. She wants to promote equal opportunities for all children, whatever their social background, and to bring the realities encountered on the ground to Parliament.
Tackling racism is also among her commitments. While her appointment is a historic first, the new MP also wishes to be recognised for her ideas, her background and her political work.
A symbol of diversity in Luxembourg.
In a country marked by strong cultural diversity and an international population, this appointment represents an important moment for political representation.
Beyond its symbolic significance, Ana Correia da Veiga's arrival in the Chamber is a reminder of the importance of all citizens taking part in democratic life, and of a diversity of backgrounds within institutions.
For the Greater Region, where French, Luxembourgish and German communities share their experiences and cultures every day, this news also illustrates the changes taking place in Luxembourg society.
Radio Tripoint will continue to shine a light on the personalities and events shaping our society, in Luxembourg, France and Germany.
